Local comedy troupe gets airtime on Comedy Central

Local comedy troupe, The Woodcreek Faction, saw one of their videos aired on an episode of Comedy Central’s Atom TV on Tuesday.
“Wrong Tree, Wrong Time,” was shot this past summer in Calhoun by the Rome-based comedy trio of Bryan Mullins, Greg Culberson and Jason Beck.
“Basically, painter (and PBS television host) Bob Ross is painting a tree that Greg climbs and gets stuck in,” Mullins said. “Bob Ross things Greg is a monkey. It’s pretty funny but ends tragically for the climber.”
The Woodcreek Faction has enjoyed success on the Web with its sketch comedy videos, earning thousands of views on Youtube.
Mullins said the group is excited to have its video on such a public venue as Atom TV which is known as a springboard for comedic talent.
In its second season, Atom TV is a latenight (actually very early morning) television program on Comedy Central. It airs top-voted Web series plucked from Atom.com. Videos can be animated, live-action, sketch comedy or parodies.
The show is a venue for not only professional animators and writers, but amateurs looking for their big break. It has been the launching pad for several comedy writers.
“You submit your video to Atom.com and they have a competition every so often and they’ll put up three videos at a time on the site and viewers pick their favorites,” Mullins said. “The funniest ones gets on the actual television show.”
This is not the first time a Woodcreek Faction video has made it on the show. Their ‘Farewell to President Bush” video also made the lineup.

It’s Christmas Time (Broke As Hell)! hits the video stands and airwaves today! Written by Muletide Perkins and Jason Beck, this rap is about being broke at Christmas time. Christmas light scenes were filmed on location at an ole ma and pop store on Highway 53 in freezing temperatures.

A sketch by Rome-based comedy troupe Woodcreek Faction will be featured on Atom TV on Comedy Central tonight at 2:30 a.m. (early Tuesday).
According to the Atom TV Web site, “Wrong Tree, Wrong Time” is about what happens when Bob Ross, the famous happy tree painter, discovers a monkey in the tree he is painting. The sketch was a winner in the “showdown” section of Atom’s Web site.
